A Map of Eastern Africa
Additional information.

COSTS OF LIVING.

Drinks.

A pint of lager would cost you anything from £ 0.45 to £1.03. In most Restaurants & Hotels a beer would be under £1.00.

A soft drink such as a Coke, Sprite, Fanta, Orange juice Mango Juice even at the most expensive places should not cost more than £1.20. On average it will cost you about £0.70 in most Hotels

Food

In East Africa food is cheap. However please avoid eating anywhere you come across. It would advisable to ask the taxi drivers at your hotel where you can have a nice meal or go for a night out in the event that you want to eat outside the hotel. Your tour operator can also arrange and advise on this.

Taxis

Generally we recommend that you book taxis trough your Hotel as they are known to the Hotel staff / Management and tend regulate prices to enable continuous business. You can always haggle as the prices are relative to distance and the taxis do not operate a meter. If you are to do so, agree on a price before you embark on your trip.

The local taxi drivers are really friendly and are open for a laugh. They also can recommend good places to Visit and Eat.
Should you complain it is more than likely the Hotel Management would look into it and where the taxi has seriously overcharged, the taxi will be barred from operating from that Hotel, this ensures a good levels of service and good prices. On Average you will be paying about. £3.00 - £7.50.

General Spending

The best people to help you make the best decision about spending and maximise your value for money are the reception staff at the hotels.
Most will advise you or give you a rough estimate of what most things should cost.

East Africans are very friendly and helpful. Most hotel staff will offer to show you around when off duty. This is not part of the job they do, but if you manage make friends they will go out of their way for you

Guides.

Your hotel can organise for a tour guide to show you around during the day or night. Alternatively you could ask the taxi drivers to do the same for you. However ensure you negotiate on a flat price for the day (They are cheaper).
